Northgate Ready Mix Hosts North Bay Construction Corp

Northgate Ready Mix recently hosted the North Bay Construction Corp at their site for a trades class. They provided the concrete and Ghilotti Construction provided the material for the forms and the concrete finishers to train the 81 students in attendance.

The North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC) is an after-school, 3-month basic construction training program for seniors in their last semester of high school. Classes are taught by local contractors and construction managers. Participants are introduced to a variety of trades and earn certifications in Personal Protective Equipment and CPR/First Aid. Each meeting is led by a contractor or tradesperson who presents information about his/her trade and then leads students through a hands-on skill-building activity.

Peter Ucan, a recent graduate of the NCBE Construction Corp and now an employee of Northgate Ready Mix, explained his experience in coming to work for Northgate Ready Mix and informed the students of the possibilities they have for a future in the construction industry.

Students also received a presentation on the process of mining the aggregate, hauling it to the facility and mixing all the materials to make the concrete. Students learned the unloading process and were trained on the signals a customer needs to give the driver!
